  • DESIGN FOR DISRUPTION

How to engage uOttawa’s community to boldly imagine the future university in 2030?

Design for disruption.

Experiment with design to unleash dynamic, provocative & imaginative discussions with future building exercises to create a new university model.

JOURNEY

The University of Ottawa is the world’s largest bilingual (English-French) university located in Canada’s Capital.  Over 40,000 students, 5,000 employees & more than 210,000 alumni are the core uOttawa community.  The school has 10 faculties with 450+ programs & is a member of the U15 Group of Canadian Research Universities.

The project integrated design thinking to create a 10 year university Strategic Plan called #IMAGINE2030.  It evolved into an on-line digital multi-platform experience bringing together LEGO® Serious Play®, NUREVA Span™ collaborative digital canvases & BANGtheTABLE©, a digital public consultation tool, to create a bilingual multi-platform experience for anyone wanting to contribute ideas for the future university.  Launched January 2019, this ground-breaking design project involved 35 in-person events, while gathering hundreds of on-line ideas, comments, views &  recommendations globally over six weeks, to challenge the status quo and propose a more resilient, durable & dynamic uOttawa future experience. Hundreds of students, staff, professors, alumni, stakeholders & community members shared their vision of the future university model.  #IMAGINE2030 resulted in #TRANSFORMATION2030 here.

“The energy, the creativity and the passion that Chrystia brings to her work as a design leader is contagious. Chrystia developed several workshops and events that brought to light the creative and visionary potential within the uOttawa community. I often refer to the outcomes of these events as examples of our capacity to think bigger, be bolder and lead the way in the digital transformation.”
